In North Korea, listening to rock music is prohibited. However, pop groups are allowed as they are created and controlled by the government.

These groups predominantly consist of military personnel selected from female militias, mainly performing melodies from military marches and a few Western standards, such as those of the Beatles, as illustrated here by an adaptation of the Abbey Road album cover.
